Take the Plunge: Printmaking with Soy-based Inks
March 10-11, 2018

Location: Mixit Print Studio, Somerville MA
Cost: $325
Hours: 9 am – 4 pm

Through an intensive exploration of Akua Intaglio inks and ink modifiers become familiar with the context, information, and inspiration to create richly layered monotypes and monoprints in series and variations using soy-based, water-miscible Akua inks.

This workshop will cover many approaches to monotype, both traditional and experimental, including: trace transfer, reductive and additive, and viscosity rolls. No toxic fumes and extended workability of the inks make it a liberating experience.

Right Left Positive Negative

Bending the Rules: Unorthodox Monotype and Monoprint
March 24-25, 2018

Location: Mixit Print Studio, Somerville MA
Cost: $325
Hours: 9 am – 4 pm

Intended as a sequel to the previous weekend workshop, deepen and broaden your expectations by pushing the limits of monotype and monoprint using Akua Intaglio inks. A matrix is only the first step in exploiting opportunities for "controlled accidents" and "calculated spontaneity".

Learn to place contiguous colors with viscosity rolls, interrupt one layer with another to achieve the intersection of two, or more layers. The long drying time of soy-based inks allows unorthodox moves, and yields many surprises. Relief blocks lend themselves particularly to transfer processes, but the workshop will encompass direct work as well as plates or blocks made in the past.
