Akua InksIn Pursuit of the Wayward Muse
April 8 – 9

New Art Center
Newton MA
http://newartcenter.org/

An intensive one-day introduction to the pleasures of fume free, water miscible Akua soy-based inks. Review basic printmaking processes, and learn how Akua Inks can expand your options with their unique qualities. Learn to mix and modify Akua Inks for viscosity, rolling techniques, additive and reductive layers, overprinting, off-set transfers, trace monotype, ghost images, and chine collé. The transparency, color intensity, soap and water cleanup, and lack of toxic fumes make using Akua Intaglio Inks a liberating experience.

Right Left Positive Negative

Right/ Left/ Positive/ Negative: Getting the Most From Your Relief Blocks with Unorthodox Monoprint
April 22 – 23

Zea Mays Studio
Florence MA
http://www.zeamaysprintmaking.com/

Disrupt traditional processes and broaden your expectations by using Akua Inatglio Inks and relief blocks for monoprints. Basic relief carving of wood or linoleum is only the first step in a process of exploiting opportunities for "controlled accidents" and "calculated spontaneity". Learn to print the cut-away parts of your block, and to place contiguous colors with viscosity rolls. Learn to interrupt one block with another to achieve the intersection of the two. The long drying time of soy-based inks allows unorthodox moves from block to plate, or block to block, and back before any ink hits the paper.

High DivingIn Pursuit of the Wayward Muse: Monotype and Monoprint
April 25 – 28

Center for Contemporary Print
Norwalk CT
www.contemprints.org

An intensive exploration of water-based Akua inks and ink modifiers, this workshop provides the context, information, and inspiration to create richly layered monotypes and monoprints in series and variations using soy-based Akua Inks. No toxic fumes and extended workability of the inks make it a liberating experience.

Diffused by LightDiffused by Light; Rooted in Earth
May 28 – June 10

Island Center for the Arts
Skopelos, Greece
http://www.islandcenter.org/summer-programs-2016/diffused-by-light-rooted-in-earth-plein-air-printmaking-in-greece-with-catherine-kernan.html

An island is a time and place apart, existing simultaneously as a real destination and as a concept for aspirations.

Combine making art with an escape from the routine. Take this opportunity for a re-examination of the process of looking, the experience of seeing in a new context, and its translation into artwork. Your drawings, and paintings generated en plein air to capture space, light, colors, shapes, and textures might be complete works in themselves, or source material for printmaking projects. Collect, ink, and print found or planned shapes and materials. Print drypoints and monotypes with a press, or print by hand for rubbings and frottage.
